The woodcutter Zerbino had no relatives or friends and people called him "unsociable". Once in the forest he saved a fairy from a snake and received as a reward the opportunity to fulfill his every desire. Now the ax went into the tree, as if in oil, and the knot itself was getting home from the forest. It so happened that he wished Princess Alely to fall in love with the guy who made her laugh, and he himself amused her.
